Apple Receives Patent for Big Bad Ass Bezel

Apple's new 'intelligent bezel' design's patent was applied for before both the iPhone and iPod Touch were released.
So, now we know why the iPad’s Black bezel border is ginormous. Apple has patented a “smart bezel” with clickable regions according to Patently Apple. They are reporting that Apple has been granted patents dealing with tablets and advanced touch technology.
The first patent concerns an ‘intelligent bezel’ where a user could control volume, zoom, brightness, or even sliding controls for games along the edge of the device. Is this bad ass or what?
Kindle who?
Nook What?
Sony Rea…? Bwh ahaha ha. Just kidding.
Ok, I’ll admit that originally, I was impressed by the shock and awe of the iPad… especially with the iPad’s overly optimistic view of themselves. Then, I read Gizmodo’s 8 Things that SUCK about the iPad… I had already considered five of those reasons, prior to reading them, but it still seemed impressive. I like the Keyboard Dock. That is smart. I think I will purchase one, but not the first gen, the second one that adopts these features.
At the time of the original patent application’s publication, neither the iPhone nor the iPod touch had been introduced, and the application’s included images offered an intriguing glance at what a “Video iPod” might look like. With last week’s introduction of the iPad, which offers a relatively substantial bezel around all four sides of the display, additional opportunities for deployment of the technology have become possible.
Once this thing gets a front facing camera, we are in business folks!
