AT&T Fails At Being Not Evil
To understand this lovely rant against the Evil Empire, you must first know something about me. I am an East Coast liberal, raised in suburban Maryland and having spent my entire adult life living in New York City. My parents were hippies and, for the past decade, I’ve lived in one of the “bluest” Congressional districts in the country.
As much as I am a hippy-dippy treehugger, I’ll be damned if I’m going to hug a tree in frakkin’ Alabama. Nothing against Alabama, better known as the “Something Blah Blah Blah State”, but they simply have nothing compelling to offer. I love North Carolina – it has great beaches and phenomenal seafood and barbecue. I love Florida – both St. Augustine and Key Largo. I want to get back to New Orleans for the bar scene and the fine cuisine. And Tennessee has Nashville and Memphis for the music lover in me.
What I want to know is why the heck I would care about some faceless conglomerate planting a tree in Alabama. Is this supposed to make me feel better about AT&T’s crapulent service? Or make me feel okay about paying for the privelege of dropped calls on my iPhone?
Perhaps AT&T should stop planting trees in frakkin’ Alabama and plant cell-towers and more nodes to handle data.
