New Yorker Journalist “Afraid of Twitter because it’s like crack”
In a recent article titled Stop the World Posted by George Packer of The New Yoker the author goes on a rather long winded rant about his fear of Twitter, going as far as comparing it to crack and stating that he won’t even considering using the service for fear that he’ll let his child go hungry while he feeds his addiction.
Dear Mr. Packer, I will kindly thank you to stay far, far away from Twitter and/or any other similar service until you can get over your fear and have something to contribute to this spectacular forum of shared information.
After all, the beauty of Twitter is that you control your stream of information by choosing whom you follow. And by contributing valuable information you open yourself up to an entire world of of possibilities, be it on a business or personal level.
What shocks me the most is that we are still having the conversation. Every time there is a new technology a certain group of people resists, 15 years ago the average person would have told you that they don’t need email or even a cell phone. Now we HAVE to get our email on our cell phone or we might miss something. And while we may have taken that to a bit of an extreme I do believe we are far more efficient because of it. I know I am. Plus, I have the power at anytime to shut it all down, because it isn’t crack and I’m not actually addicted to it.
