Nexus One Scores A Hat Trick Of Fail

First, there was Google Wave, which was ushered in with a torrent of breathless hype.  The day of the release, Twitter was filled with tweets reading “Does anyone have a spare Wave invite?”, only to be replaced a week later with “Does anyone want a spare Wave invite?”

Then, there was Google Buzz, which managed to screw up in almost every way imaginable, by infringing on registered trademarks, violating users’ privacy, and generally existing without any reason to exist.

Well, it’s starting to become apparent that the Google Nexus One is a failure too.  Setting aside the lawsuit that Philip K. Dick’s filing against Google for the name, the Nexus One has sold 175,000 handsets in its first 74 days.  That is the benchmark because 74 days is the amount of time it took the iPhone to sell 1 million handsets.  On top of that, the majority of units were sold (surprise!) in the first month.

In related news, people interested in buying the Nexus One have more options.  The good news is that you can buy a Nexus One for use on AT&T.  The bad news is that it will be on AT&T’s 3G network.  (via Silicon Valley Insider)
