*UPDATE* Swype for Android Beta Release Closed
*UPDATE* Swype for Android beta release is now closed
.
As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, Swype is a must have smartphone app. Swype for Android’s finger-dragging texting technique has been available to very few people so far. There has been a launch on the MyTouch phone legimitately, and also through a leaked version back in December. Regardless, Swype has still only been made available to a very small group of people, myself included.
Over the weekend my original beta version stopped working and I was heart broken… until we discovered the new beta version was released. I immediately put it on my phone. Without Swype on my phone, it felt like my phone was broken.
Swype has just announced their first official Beta release, and will be accepting applications to the testing program here. Swype does say that user-installed copies will be missing some of the features that the factory-installed versions have – but they’re not saying exactly which features that entails. The beta supports HVGA (320×480) and WVGA (around 480×800) screens, which should cover just about everything from the T-Mobile G1 to the Nexus One.
Be sure to get Swype, while the getting is good. They could shut it down at any time. And you don’t want to be without this golden nugget of badassness.
