Calling all bullshittapotomuses…here kitty kitty

“Human-Flesh Searching” Groups in China Oust Those Committing Acts of Immorality

The New York Times released a fascinating article on what the Chinese are calling “human-flesh searching”. It seems that social media has spurred an underground group of moral heroes in China. A collection of people banding together from the Internet to cast out perpetrators of heinous and immoral actions, unifying together to ban the accused parties from certain jobs, lifestyles, or even to force them to move away from their home city. Excerpts and a link to the full article after the jump.

Achoo! Bless Pew! Gee, Thanks a Millennial!

Achoo! Bless Pew! Gee, Thanks a Millennial!

So being the semi-avid academic that I am, I don’t b.s. about bookmarking websites that provide a generous wealth of pop culture pulp for my pontificating pleasure. That being said, I can’t quite convey how much Pew Research Center tickles my pickle. It’s a site where the statistics are relevant and the digest is edible. [...]

Please Rob Me – Location Based Social Networking Burglary

I used Foursquare less than 20 times before the kind folks at forthehack who created Please Rob Me helped me see the potential danger of not only stalkers (you know who you are) but the new breed of tech savvy burglar who are using Location-based social networking. Facebook 2nd Biggest Site? um, duh?!

Facebook 2nd Biggest Site? um, duh?!

Facebook users reached a new low today, sympathizing and glorifying the actions of a disturbed man. If you are a fan of Joe Stack or what he did, you are a fan of terrorism. There is no way around it.

Buzz Exploit Addressed by Google…Kinda

Buzz Exploit Addressed by Google…Kinda

Google is scrambling to repair the security exploit (see lack of follower message view control) they overlooked by stating that the option to block public views of contacts was always there.  LifeHacker has a decent walk-through and Google has now posted a “we listened to your feedback” post on the official Google blog  page.  This fix is not a [...]

WARNING! Privacy Exploits Within Google Buzz

Thank you for the warning Harriet.  ( The BBC NEWS seemed to agree back in 2007) I use my private Gmail account to email my boyfriend and my mother. There’s a BIG drop-off between them and my other “most frequent” contacts. You know who my third most frequent contact is? My abusive ex-husband. Which is [...]

What then is the implication of these findings?

“We still don’t think we understand this fully,” said Mr. Lund. But one possibility is that while cellphones are a distraction, maybe they are not “all that much worse a distraction than many of the other things that we do.”

Here is the something we do that causes wrecks…..
